Branch Avenue Station (F10a - Greenline)

The Branch Avenue Station & Line F10a (Green Line) project completed for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, better known as WMATA, included the construction of 1.6 miles of dual train track. (0.5 miles consists of precast concrete, post-tensioned single box segmental aerial structure, 0.8 miles of ground level and open cut section and 0.3 miles of two (2) level below ground station.) The project included acoustical barrier sound panels, cast-in-place retaining walls, two AASHTO girder roadway bridges, vehicle parking areas (over 3,000 spaces), kiss-n-ride, sanitary sewers, drainage, potable water distribution system and electrical distribution system. More than 51,000 LF of prestressed concrete piling and 90,000 SF of precast post tensioned segmental construction was completed along with more than 30,000 SF of streetscaping work.  In addition to the main station, the project included a traction power substation building and a tie-breaker station building.  Architectural features of the Branch Avenue station included skylights, precast concrete architectural features, stainless steel railings, cladding, bus shelters and platform shelters.  The segmental bridge line segment was constructed through the environmentally sensitive Henson Creek and over the Suitland Parkway, part of the Natioanl Park System.
