The project consisted of the reconstruction of the intersection at State Road No. 90 (Tamiami Trail/US-41) and Krome Avenue. The work performed included the construction of a new bridge over the Tamiami Canal, precast concrete retaining walls along the south and east edges of the canals, road demucking and reconstruction, drainage installation, lighting and signing and pavement markings. Close coordination was required with utility agencies amongst which were the South Florida Water Management District and AT&T in order to protect natural resources and a critical main communication feed to Southwest Florida. Project was delivered ahead of schedule achieving an early completion bonus. The project was recognized in 2004 with the FTBA “Outstanding Major Bridge Project” award.
